Fishes and Wishes

During the first Lockdown of the Pandemic in 2020 we created  a community engagement project to get people active and creative outdoors in their family groups.

A story , written and narrated by John Quinn, was filmed in three episodes and put out on Facebook.

Fishes and Wishes

After each episode people were encouraged to make something from the story, a Fish in Episode 1, a Star in Episode 2 and a Boat in Episode 3. They could make them anywhere they wanted, on the beach, in the woods or in their own backyard or bedroom. 'How to make' videos were posted on Facebook.

A special piece of Beach art was created by the Barn team to go with each episode. The location of these was initially secret but word soon spread, and Hawthorn Hive soon became a destination with people making all sorts of sea creatures and other wonderful pieces of work using the multi-coloured stones and other artifacts on the beach. A living Gallery reflecting the concerns of the time, including messages to the NHS and memorial messages to loved ones.
