Hope box

It started as an old horsebox, but after repainting, reinventing and repurpose it is now the Hope box. As well as being beautiful, its mobile so we can bring our Hope box out into the community and share our incredible story.

Hopebox Story

The Hope Box came about from the work of Tina’s Haven, a catalyst for emancipatory practice for mothers who are severed from their children by addiction. Tina’s Haven was founded and curated by Dr Sue Robson in memory of her beloved daughter Tina, who died age 35 in temporary homeless accommodation having suffered trauma and addiction for most of her too short life. When she passed away in July 2020, Tina left behind her adored son Vinnie, when he was only eleven years old

From their tragic experiences of severance, trauma, and loss, and with a vision of the transformative power of love, trust and female solidarity; Tina’s family were determined to create something hopeful as a powerful living memory.

The Hope Box is the brain-child of Women in Empowerment & Recovery (WiRE); a self-determined and self-supporting group of women with experiences of being subjected to violence, trauma, addiction, homelessness, and child-removal. Whilst these are tragic experiences, often intended to break the women; WiRE have a valuable resource of shared experience to draw upon which collectively makes them a powerful force of nature; proudly and bravely bestowing change upon the world.

WiRE’s intention is to develop the Hope Box as a disseminator of hope and connection; providing creative workshops, a mobile soup-kitchen & coffee shop, and selling products and food produced from their market garden at The Barn at Easington.
